Paperworks

The connections between what occupies us, what we are drawn to and what we make of those occupations lies behind most of the work I make. Currently that is connections between textiles and text, paper, and plants; quilting, weaving, and lace making, nomenclature—the naming of things, nostalgia, and the memories that are built when the lens is nostalgia. I am looking at the threads that link our personal and collective memories to the present and to what is to come—the intersections between how we live in the world and how we name things in that world—spines of books, spines of bodies, of plants and poems—our desire to name things seemingly to understand them or to justify them. And also, how those names, namings and re-namings shift how we think about a thing or a moment or a movement, shifts that are destructive, but also shifts that hint at hope.
